Montol Countdown

So we’re exactly a month out from Montol and things are starting to fall into place.

Woah!

Fall‽

Carefully, precisely placed and arranged would be a better way to put it.

How are your projects progressing? I had grand plans for a new mask this year – but like so many it’s been put off till next.

Time for an update:

There’s so much going on behind the scenes – as always.
Montol is an ungainly lumbering beast and, like a dinosaur, it needs all the little brains in its shoulders and hips just to keep walking.
And it belongs to all of us, so change has to be organic and come from the bottom up.
There will be new Beasts, new characters, new Guilds and new bands (and most of your old favourites too) but on the surface hopefully very little will appear to have changed.

We are forging stronger ties with our local siblings, particularly Golowan, to share resources and build in resilience. Doing all we can to help them secure a new permanent home in the heart of Penzance.
A berth that would give Montol the stability to plan long-term projects and expand our reach, connect with other local groups, encourage the exchange of ideas, and resources throughout the year.
And a lovely little romance is developing between Montol and the St Ives Feast Night Guisers. Rekindling memories of our early days.

The torches should arrive today, Tas Nadelik’s pram is serviced and MOT’d (how it passed will remain a secret between me and the CCTV), we’re actively hunting for the mock, most of the materials for the workshops came throughout this week, and the website will be updated and improved over the next week or so.
We’ve clarified most of our plans and the emergency services are happy – Cornwall Council is another matter – they still want more but then they always do.

Walking the venue with security and safety on Monday and then it’s time for all the little details.

And the holes in the roads will be gone – promises have been made. And I believe them – I do … I do … I must!

We’ve even got all the materials ready and a pretty clear idea for the Sun this year – which is unheard of so far in advance – it’ll be handsome.

And we’re really pleased to announce that the Super Saturday of Workshops on 20th December will be hosted by Pixel, at the top of Causewayhead.
The plan is for a sort of workshop speed-dating (much favoured by arts-administrators I’m told) – you’ll be able to move from mask-making to cloak-making to Cornish dancing all in the same space.
Well, that’s the idea.
They’ve been very helpful and accommodating and are a welcome new partner along with Feast.

We’ll keep you up to date with any news.

Thanks to Greg Martin for the photo.

Here comes December whipping us all into a maelstrom of snipping, ripping, pasting and stitching. The clock is ticking.
